One Group One down, one to go
FRESH from her Group One triumph at Albion Park last night, Jasper has been aimed at another major.
An Australian Pacing Gold graduate, the filly has been set for next month’s Brisbane Sale-based series by trainer Grant Dixon.
Heats of the futurity are scheduled to be conducted at Albion Park on August 7, with the $100,000 APG Final at the same venue on the 15th.
Jasper firmed as one of the main contenders with her success in the Qbred Triad Final.
“She’s a neat little filly,” Dixon said. “The APG series will be harder against the colts, but all things even she will let them know she is there.
“I will give her a few days off now then get her ready for the heats in a fortnight.”
Driven by Dixon, Jasper was pushed forward from barrier six to work to the lead as early pacemaker Shes Miss Devine was eased to take a trail.
Striding clear of the pack along the home straight, the daughter of Mach Three was untouched to score by seven metres from Shes Miss Devine.
After racing in the ‘death seat’ Jaziah fought on gallantly to be three-and-a-half metres away third.
“You can never get too confident, plus it was a wet night so things could have played out a lot differently, but I felt she had them covered,” Dixon said.
“I liked her chances and wouldn’t have swapped her for anything else in the race.
“She felt really strong up the straight and found the line quite well.”
Owned by GSM Racing, the two-year-old rated 1:56.4 over 1660 metres to take her record to three wins and two placings from five starts for earnings of $69,634.
