Younger brother provides consolation
PROMISING freshman Artillery provided connections with a minor consolation last night.
Although some members of the group are different, the majority of the syndicate are also part-owners of the two-year-old’s brother Culture King.
Raced by the Ready To Run Syndicate, Culture King was a gallant second in the Group One Metropolitan Region Championship at Club Menangle earlier in the evening.
Artillery, which is owned by The Run For Fun Syndicate, went one better by scoring at Globe Derby for trainer Paul Cavallaro.
Cavallaro previously prepared Culture King before sending him to New South Wales mentor Craig Cross with the Championship as his primary target.
“We are very pleased with Culture King,” Cavallaro said. “We think he did a great job after doing a fair bit of work early.”
As for Artillery, the son of Art Major made light work of his opposition by leading throughout from barrier four.
Providing Mark Billinger with an armchair drive, Artillery was never seriously challenged on his way to a 12-and-a-half metre win from Thiswaytothebeach, with Princess Lil nine metres away third.
Rating 2:02.7 over 1800 metres, the gelding took his record to two wins and second from three starts.
“He did that as easily as he liked,” Cavallaro said. “I freshened him up after his second in the Golden Nursery a few weeks ago and he felt terrific in his work during the week.
“He’ll go around again in the Lordship Stake in a fortnight then I will have to see what is around as we wait for news on when the Southern Cross will be run.”
